Currency

The official currency of Israel is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS). Most places will take US dollars. There is no need to change your money. Traveler’s checks are not recommended. Most stores will take major credit cards. It is suggested to take $100 in cash - a lot of dollar bills for water, soft drinks, and small vendors, as well as cash to pay for lunch while out and about. Most banks have ATMs and are open everyday except Saturday. Please keep in mind that you are traveling with a group and you may not be near a bank while visiting sites during the day, and the banks may be closed upon your return to the hotel.
